Months 3–0: which financial steps cannot be rushed at the end

By this point the slow items should be finished, not started. What’s left is genuinely last-mile: police certificates for the country you currently live in must be issued no more than six months before you submit, so this is often the very last document to request, not the first. Government fees — close to $3,890 in total for a family of four across processing, the Right of Permanent Residence Fee, dependent children and biometrics — get paid in this window too, alongside whatever your South African tax practitioner has flagged for the RAV01 residency-cessation declaration.
