Manitoba's Business Investor Farm and Entrepreneur Paths, Explained

Six weeks after you submit an Expression of Interest under Manitoba's Business Investor stream, you're still waiting — because unlike a fixed scheduled draw, Manitoba scores your EOI against its points grid and invites when it chooses to, not on a calendar you can plan around in advance. Manitoba's business investor farm and entrepreneur paths run on that same EOI logic, which is worth understanding before you build a timeline around either one.

The two doors, and what's confirmed about each

Manitoba runs two business-focused routes under its Business Investor stream: an Entrepreneur path for business owners and senior managers, and a Farm Investor path for people running farm operations. Neither is Express Entry-aligned — they're direct provincial routes with their own scoring, sitting outside the CRS system entirely.

What's confirmed about the Entrepreneur path is specific: applicants need three years' business ownership or senior management experience within the last five years, and a minimum ownership stake of 33⅓% in that business. That threshold does real work — it rules out someone who was a senior employee without equity, and it rules out a token shareholding bought just to qualify. The requirements for the Manitoba Farm Investor pathway are less detailed in what we can verify; it runs on the same Expression of Interest mechanism, but the specific ownership and experience thresholds for farm operators aren't confirmed in our research the way the Entrepreneur path's are.

What we can't confirm yet

We don't have a confident answer for what an exploratory visit involves for Manitoba business applicants. Deposit requirements and business plan basics for the province's business streams aren't detailed with confidence in the research behind this post either, and neither are the performance milestones a nominee is expected to hit after landing. That matters more than it might sound like it does, because business PNP streams elsewhere have carried real financial conditions attached, and getting that wrong isn't a small mistake. Confirm every one of these directly at immigratemanitoba.com before committing to a business plan or a trip around it.

Why the Saskatchewan comparison doesn't hold anymore

This is where a real, verified comparison actually helps. Saskatchewan's equivalent categories — its Entrepreneur, International Graduate Entrepreneur, and Farm Owner/Operator streams — were permanently closed on 27 March 2025, after Ottawa cut provincial nomination allocations across the board. Saskatchewan's old eligibility pages, including the ones describing a $300,000 net-worth requirement and a $75,000 good-faith deposit, are still published online, but they describe a door that no longer opens. If you've read about Saskatchewan's business route recently, you were probably reading a stale page. Manitoba's Business Investor stream, by contrast, isn't flagged as closed anywhere in our research — but "not flagged as closed" is not the same as "confirmed currently open and accepting applications," and the only way to know for certain is to check immigratemanitoba.com directly before you build a plan around it.

What this means for your next step

Manitoba overall is scored on a 900-point Expression of Interest grid, with 60-plus points on a self-assessment as the eligibility floor — a completely different scale from the CRS, so don't try to compare a Manitoba EOI score to an Express Entry score directly. If the Entrepreneur path's ownership and experience thresholds fit your situation, the province's own site is where the rest of the specifics, from deposits to what happens after nomination, need to come from.
