Why IRCC Removed Job Offer Points From Your Express Entry CRS Score

Two hundred points. That’s what a valid job offer in a senior-management role used to add to a CRS score — enough, on its own, to turn a borderline profile into an all-but-guaranteed invitation. As of 25 March 2025, it adds zero, and a lot of older advice hasn’t caught up with that. Job offer CRS points removed Express Entry’s biggest non-language scoring lever that day, and nothing has replaced it since.

What actually happened on 25 March 2025

IRCC removed the arranged-employment points entirely: the 200 points for a qualifying senior-management job offer and the 50 points for other skilled job offers both dropped to nothing, for current and future candidates alike. The change was applied automatically — profiles already sitting in the pool had their points stripped without any action from the candidate. If you’d already received an invitation, or your PR application was already in progress, you were unaffected. Everyone else woke up to a lower score overnight, whether or not they realised why. Candidates who had spent months lining up a job offer specifically to bank those points saw the strategy evaporate in a single regulatory change, regardless of how genuine the underlying employment offer actually was.

Why IRCC removed arranged employment points in March 2025

IRCC has been explicit that this was a fraud-control measure, not a policy shift about the value of job offers themselves. The points had become a target for the illegal buying and selling of LMIA-backed job offers — arrangements where money changed hands for a document that existed on paper more than in any real employment relationship. Framed as an anti-fraud measure with no announced end date, the removal applies indefinitely rather than for a fixed period, which is worth noting if you’ve seen it described anywhere as temporary and about to reverse.

What a job offer still does for eligibility

A job offer hasn’t become worthless — it just stopped being a scoring lever. It can still matter for eligibility under certain programmes, and it remains central to routes outside core Express Entry entirely, including several provincial nominee streams that are built around employer sponsorship rather than a points formula. What changed is specifically the CRS calculation: a job offer no longer moves your number, even if it still opens other doors.

Whether job offer points are coming back in 2026

There’s a live proposal, not a rule. IRCC’s April–May 2026 consultation on Express Entry reform floated reintroducing CRS points tied to Canadian work experience and job offers, but only in high-wage occupations benchmarked against multiples of the national median wage — explicitly framed as a way to bring back some version of job-offer points while managing the fraud risk that caused the March 2025 removal in the first place. No implementation date has been set, and the proposal still needs regulatory changes to take effect. Treat it as a direction of travel, not something to plan your CRS math around today.

For how any of this interacts with your own application timing, that’s ground for a licensed RCIC to cover — this piece only describes the rule as it currently stands.
