Canadian Experience Class Draws Just Got 50 Percent Bigger — What the Published Numbers Show

The 5 August Canadian Experience Class round issued 3,000 invitations at a CRS cut-off of 516 — the largest CEC round of 2026 so far, and a 50 percent increase on the 2,000-invitation CEC rounds IRCC ran on 7 and 21 July. This piece looks at what the published draw history actually shows about the CEC in 2026.

A bigger draw at the same cut-off
The striking detail is not the 3,000 — it is that the cut-off did not move. Adding a thousand invitations without the score bar dropping means the pool contained at least a thousand more candidates at 516-plus than a fortnight earlier. The published CRS distribution table, updated alongside each draw, shows the bands above 500 refilling steadily between rounds — consistent with new profiles entering and existing candidates improving scores.
What the CEC is, and who is in those draws
The Canadian Experience Class is the Express Entry programme for candidates with qualifying skilled work experience gained inside Canada. Programme-specific CEC rounds therefore invite people already working in Canada on temporary status. Candidates applying directly from South Africa are not in these rounds — their programme-specific route is the Federal Skilled Worker Program, which has not had a programme-specific round in 2026's published record. That asymmetry, visible draw after draw, is the single clearest fact in the 2026 calendar: the system currently favours people already inside Canada, and the two-step route (a work or study permit first, permanent residence second) is how a growing share of applicants respond to it. The steady cut-off in context
Through 2026 the CEC cut-off has sat in a narrow band in the mid-510s: 517, 516, 516 across the last three rounds. Stability at that level, while draw sizes grow, suggests IRCC is managing volume rather than score — the published levels plan allocates a large share of federal admissions to candidates already in Canada, and the CEC is the vehicle.
