ASHRAE Standards for Building Services Engineers in Canada — The Brief That Changes at the First Cold Snap

Several provinces have recently shortened this path for internationally trained engineers — worth confirming the current version with your target province rather than assuming an older, slower process still applies.
Where the roles actually sit
Energy modelling, net-zero design consultancy and LEED-focused mechanical work are all named directions in this field, but we don’t have confirmed hiring-demand figures for any of them specifically. If you’re interviewing from South Africa, ask directly about the climate-driven side of the brief — how a firm handles heating-dominant design, what codes they design to, and whether they expect prior heating-climate experience or are prepared to train it in. That question does more to separate a realistic offer from an optimistic one than anything on a job posting.
