Does Having a Job Offer Still Help Express Entry in 2026? Why Removing Arranged Employment Points Changed the Answer
Does a job offer still help Express Entry in 2026? Not through CRS points — a valid job offer adds exactly zero to an Express Entry profile today, and it’s been zero since 25 March 2025, a fact a surprising amount of advice still floating around online hasn’t caught up with.
What actually happened in March 2025
IRCC removed the 200 points attached to a qualifying senior-management job offer and the 50 points attached to other skilled job offers, for current and future candidates alike. Points were stripped automatically from profiles already sitting in the pool — nothing needed to be resubmitted for the change to take effect, and no candidate had to do anything for their score to drop overnight. Candidates who already held an invitation, or whose permanent residence application was already in progress, weren’t affected; the change only touched profiles still waiting.
Where job offers still count in 2026
Not through CRS scoring, no. A valid job offer can still matter for eligibility in some programs — it’s part of what makes certain applicants exempt from showing settlement funds, for instance — but it no longer adds a single point to your Comprehensive Ranking System score, and hasn’t for well over a year now.
Why IRCC made the change in the first place
The government framed it as a temporary anti-fraud measure, aimed specifically at the illegal buying and selling of Labour Market Impact Assessments that had been propping up fake or overstated job offers. No end date was attached to the change when it was announced, and none has been added since.
Job offer no longer worth CRS points — but the idea isn’t dead
IRCC’s 2026 consultation on reforming the Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class and Federal Skilled Trades programs floats bringing job-offer points back in a different form: tied specifically to high-wage occupations, benchmarked at two, one-and-a-half or one-point-three times the national median wage. That’s explicitly a proposal inside a discussion paper, not a rule, and it requires regulatory amendments that haven’t happened.
Arranged employment points removed March 2025 facts, applied to old advice
Any calculator, article or forum post built before that date, and never updated, is working from a scoring model that no longer exists. If a piece of advice tells you a job offer will boost your score by a specific point value, that advice predates March 2025 and is currently wrong, regardless of how confidently it’s written.
What to actually do about a job offer today
Treat it for what it currently is — potentially useful for programme eligibility and settlement-fund exemptions, not a scoring lever. The honest takeaway is that job offers don’t move your score in 2026 — not through the routes IRCC currently runs, not yet, and not for free. A licensed RCIC can walk you through exactly where a job offer fits in your specific situation under the rules as they stand right now, rather than the rules that applied before March 2025.
